We have a very active junior squad and all members up to age 18 are aligned to this squad. The juniors train separately from adult rowers due to different coaching requirements and child welfare considerations; this is why if you join with your child you will not learn on the same course. On occasion, juniors and seniors may row together under the direction of the Junior vice-captain. Please speak to the Junior vice-captain if you have a child who is interested in rowing.

Saturday at Peterborough

Posted by Angela Cook | August 16, 2010

Winning WIM3.4+The weather this Saturday made Peterborough Summer an interesting event this year! During the first rounds of races that morning, in proper down-pours, both WIM3.2x crews (Sarah/Lizzie and Angela/Louise) unfortunately got knocked out in their heats. However, the WIM3.4+ of Katie, Charlotte W and two of our vacation students Charlotte L and Sarah M-P, stormed through their heat!

The day progressed with mixed success. The WIM3.4x- (Sarah G, Lizzy, Anne-Marie and Amanda) put up a good fight but were pipped to the post by Staines and Oxford City in their heat. The IM1.2x of Tom Jenkins and Robin Mould made it to the repechage. Tom suffered some back problems during their second race though, after he was hit by an 8 during training last week, so they didn’t make it through to the final. However, a good effort from the both given Tom’s injury and the fact they originally wanted to race IM2.

Steve, Graham, Matt and Dominic were racing IM3.4+ but didn’t make it to the final. They were back racing on Sunday also (although I don’t know the outcomes for Sunday!). The WNov.8+ all had a good close racing against City of Cambridge losing by no more than a length – well done to Belinda, Sue, Helen, Emma, Chloe, Penny, Jane, Liz and cox Ollie. Well done also to Helen who braved the single in the Women’s Novice category. She made it to the rep but after close encounters with waves, buoys and swans, she didn’t quite make it to the final!

Congratulations of the day go to Hugo and Andy who won in their MasD pair. The WIM3.4+ also repeated their success from the heat in both the semi and the final. So, congratulations also go to that crew, especially to Charlotte W who lost her novices!

Bedford Quarts – Race Report 2

Posted by Penny Churchill | July 19, 2010

Better late than never. Congratulations to Patrick Moody and Alex Goodwin on their wins at Bedford Quarts last week! Patrick fought off strong competition to win the IM3 single sculls event. Impressive considering he didn’t know he was entering the event until 2 weeks before! Alex won his final by a massive 5 lengths to take the J16 single sculls title. Broxbourne scullers rule!

Adrian’s coxed novice 4 won their first 2 heats (first 2 ever races for most of the crew) and lost in the final by a mere 1/2 length. Not bad for a bunch of ungraceful swans ( ok, I speak for myself when I say ungraceful ;o) Well done to Jo, Jane, Emma, Ollie and er me.

Many of the juniors got through to their finals. Congratulations to you all – Ruth McKellar in the W.J16.1x, Ruth and Emma Lacy in the W.J16.2x, Alex Stride and Ashley Wyatt in the J18.4x and the J18 quad.

British Rowing Championship Results

Lightweights weigh in sheet with silver medal

With the help of the Lea Rowing Club, Broxbourne managed to get its boats to Strathclyde Park for the 2010 British Rowing Championships. (Many thanks Lea!) Broxbourne initially entered three crews but that later rose to four. The junior quad unfortunately went out in their heats. Alex Goodwin not only won Bronze in the Open Junior 16 Single Sculls, but also sat in a coxless four for Durham School at the eleventh hour and won a Bronze medal for that too! The senior men, after a diet of Rivita and Skinny Latte’s entered the lightweight coxless fours and came away with a Silver medal, missing out on the Gold by 1/2 a length. Well done boys! Congratulations to all involved!

Medals
Open Lightweight Coxless Four: Chris, Craig, Adam, Graham – Silver
Open Junior 16 Single Scull: Alex Goodwin – Bronze
Open Junior 16 Coxless Four: Alex Goodwin (composite with Durham School) – Bronze
