Welcome to the Broxbourne Rowing Club website! We are friendly rowing club with a fine fleet of boats, a fully equipped gym, and a modern, spacious club house with a bar. We row pretty much undisturbed on a delightful stretch of the river Lea. We compete vigorously and successfully in local and national races and welcome all including senior, masters, beginners, juniors and recreational rowers.

If you haven't rowed before, the sport provides full-body outdoor fitness, stimulates your senses and challenges you physically. There are few things as exhilarating as rowing at full pressure in a well synchronised crew. We run regular Learn to Row courses for juniors and adults to set you on your way.

If you are a more experienced rower, you will find a racing crew to meet your aspirations, whether you want to compete at Henley, in the masters world championships, or national and provincial races. Some prefer to enjoy recreational rowing and our touring boats travel far and wide on long weekends away, or compete in pageant-spectaculars like the Great River Race.

We also welcome aspiring and experienced coaches and coxes. These vital members of the club have the opportunity to make a real difference to the crew. Inexperienced or new coxes will receive support, training and coaching and are unlikely to be short of crews to practice with!

If you are interested please get in touch with the club.

Henley here we come!

Posted by Penny Scorah | June 28, 2010

Whilst the women of Broxbourne ponder their dress choice for this years Henley and whether the shuffle technique will have to be deployed, the senior men are quietly preparing for Wednesday’s heats. The draw is out and fortunately for the IV there is a nice big gap of 10 hours between races.

Wednesday’s Timetable
9.15am: The IV will be racing in the first heat of The Wyfold Challenge Cup against Star Club.
7.00pm: The VIII will be racing in the first heat of The Thames Challenge Cup against London A.

A full timetable of Wednesday’s racing can be seen here: http://www.hrr.co.uk/pdisp.php?pid=318
Best of luck to the crews and watch this space for live results (assuming the iPhone doesn’t malfunction)

Henley Qualification for the Thames VIII

Posted by Chris Scorah | June 21, 2010

After the roller coaster ride that was yesterday, the crew met up for an evening paddle with spirits raised by pre-qualification of the VIII for the Thames cup.  We have now secured qualification for at least one boat for the past seven Henley Royal Regattas.  A strong paddle left the roller coaster ride that was Marlow far behind.  Not many outings until we race!  The IV has to go through the qualifiers on Friday.

Marlow Regatta

Posted by Chris Scorah | June 19, 2010

Saturday 19th June saw the men’s squad make their last trip to Dorney lake for 2010 for Marlow regatta.  We were a little worried about our heat and were expecting to be scrapping to make the rep.  After a dreadful warm up paddle, we somehow managed to put together an awesome start and found ourselves a length up at 700m.  The rowing went a little down hill from there, but we comfortably held on to the lead to win by a length and secure a place in the final.  Unfortunately the final was a bit of a disaster with a boat stopping crab about 20 strokes in leaving us 15 seconds behind the field and racing the umpires launch.  Not a great end to the day.  We must now pick ourselves up to restore confidence and prepare for Henley.
