Welcome to the Broxbourne Rowing Club website! We are friendly rowing club with a fine fleet of boats, a fully equipped gym, and a modern, spacious club house with a bar. We row pretty much undisturbed on a delightful stretch of the river Lea. We compete vigorously and successfully in local and national races and welcome all including senior, masters, beginners, juniors and recreational rowers.

If you haven't rowed before, the sport provides full-body outdoor fitness, stimulates your senses and challenges you physically. There are few things as exhilarating as rowing at full pressure in a well synchronised crew. We run regular Learn to Row courses for juniors and adults to set you on your way.

If you are a more experienced rower, you will find a racing crew to meet your aspirations, whether you want to compete at Henley, in the masters world championships, or national and provincial races. Some prefer to enjoy recreational rowing and our touring boats travel far and wide on long weekends away, or compete in pageant-spectaculars like the Great River Race.

We also welcome aspiring and experienced coaches and coxes. These vital members of the club have the opportunity to make a real difference to the crew. Inexperienced or new coxes will receive support, training and coaching and are unlikely to be short of crews to practice with!

If you are interested please get in touch with the club.

Scullers Head

Posted by Chris Scorah | December 12, 2010

Adam Sculling under Chiswick Bridge, Scullers Head 2010After Fours Head, attention in the Senior and Vet Men’s squad turned to Scullers Head.  We arrived at Thames Tradesman’s a couple of hours before the race in darkness with temperatures hovering around freezing.  However, the tide had already started to go out, so with very little wind and low water, conditions were calm and perfect for sculling.

This year we had eight entries, with Adam starting eighth and looking to defend his IM2 pennant from last year, and first time entries for Tom, Robin from the senior squad and Russell from the Vets.

The race went without incident for most of the Broxbourne scullers with the exception of Quintin, who having started one place behind Russell and having over taken him, got tangled up with the next person he overtook resulting in Russell passing him back.  Needless to say, having untangled himself, Qunitin unleashed the rage and chased Russell down again, finishing the race a few lengths clear of him.

Thanks must go to Rob who towed down, then cycled from Putney back to Barnes after the race to get the trailer, allowing the rest of us to sit in Vesta drinking tea and eating cake in the warm instead of taking on the miserable scull back up to Thames Tradesman’s!

When the results came out in the evening, there was plenty to celebrate.  Adam had retained the IM2 pennant, finishing 11th, with Craig finishing 29th and me finishing 34th (all three of us move down two places if you add the time only entries into the results).  Both Rob and Tom finished in the top two hundred with Rob 122nd, and Tom 174th.  This should give them both good starting positions next year.  Robin managed to beat his Dad.  Full results can be found on the Scullers Head results page.

Deadline for standing order membership renewals: Tuesday 30th November

Posted by Rosie Sanderson | November 25, 2010

Many thanks to those that have already renewed their membership of Broxbourne Rowing Club for 2011. For those of you yet to complete the forms and pay up, membership forms can be found in the members area of this site – if you don’t have a login, email webmaster@broxbournerowingclub.org to get one.

Please note, if you stick a note on your cheque stating do not cash until January we will honour that, but it will help to know if you are intending to renew or not.  Hard copies of the  forms are available at the club in plastic folders attached to the notice board. It will save envelopes, stamps and time if as many people as possible could respond and return either a renewal form and standing order form, or a renewal form and cheque, by end November. Those who do not respond will receive a reminder by post.

Please put completed forms in the management box at the club

Many Thanks
Rosie Sanderson, Secretary
